Today my mom and I drove to Leesburg, Florida to see my friend and pageant coach Tiffany Johnson.  She has a beautiful shop called Sassyfrass full of clothes, purses, jewelry and even tanning beds.  There was also a full stage where I practiced my stage walk over and over again.  We all had a great time and I want to thank Tiffany for her help.

I have been busy these past couple of days getting ready for the New York Miss America Pageant.  I have been shopping, shopping and more shopping!

As the Miss America New York Pageant draws closer it’s no surprise that the contestants are in training mode.  I was fortunate to have the opportunity to work with Mr. Jeff Caponigro of Caponigro Public Relations.  I believe that there is always room for improvement in whatever you do, especially public speaking.  A true specialist in his field, Mr. Caponigro was extremely helpful in working with me on my interview skills.  I actually felt a little nervous, but I seemed to successfully work my way through the many questions he had prepared for me.  My meeting went very well and I will certainly be using the wealth of information I was given to not only benefit me during the pageant, but in my everyday life.

Thank you Mr. Caponigro!

I would like to thank Danica Lo for visiting with me today.  She is the feature writer for the New York Post and will be writing an article about the New York Miss America Pageant for the June 22nd issue of the Post.  We spent time talking about my volunteer efforts, what I like to do, and other things she was interested in knowing about me.  The photographer seemed excited to see all the interesting things in my room.  They both learned that I love Tea!  If you ever visit me, you may very well get offered a cup of Tea!

Watch for the New York Post’s article about the Miss New York Organization to be released on June 22nd.  It will include information on the organization, as well as information on the contestants, their journey to Miss NY and their everyday lives.

In 2004, I was the Teen Chair of the American Heart Association’s Tampa Bay Heart Walk.  I have sung the National Anthem at the start of two of their annual walks as well as volunteered with their Heart Hero’s and a guest at their Heart Balls.   Now as a resident of New York it was only natural for me to be involved with the local AHA.  I had a great time at this year’s annual Heart Ball and was excited to meet several of their staff and Heart Ball guests.  I look forward to attending more of their events.

BUILDING HOMES FOR HEROS

I had a wonderful time at the “Building Homes for Heroes” Golf Tournament at the Battle Ground Country Club in Manalapan, New Jersey.  Building Homes for Heroes is an amazing organization which provides individuals, corporations, and others with an opportunity to help severally wounded and disabled veterans and their families rebuild their lives.  Some may think the organization’s name is pretty self explanatory but there is so much more involved.  After golfing the group assembled for their luncheon.  I heard some of the most heroic stories of soldiers’ fights for survival and their dedication to save their comrades and friends.

The luncheon started out with an introduction from Andrew Pujol, President of “Building Homes for Heroes.  I was then asked  to sing “God Bless America” in honor of all of the soldiers and veterans.  The luncheon continued with heroic stories and testimonials about how homes the organization has built for these Heroes are helping them restore their lives and their families.

Attention was then brought to an empty table in the center of the room, with a single chair.  It was explained that the chair and the unused table setting symbolizes all of the soldiers that are not here today.  The single rose symbolizes all of the loved ones.  The lemon on the butter plate symbolizes the bitter death and the salt represents the tears of those who were left behind.  It was a touching moment as the description and moment of silence ended with “Amazing Grace” being played by bag pipes.  As the song approached the end the players slowly exited the room, caring the sound of the well known song with them.

The lunch ended with a video of how a Hero’s home is built and the soldier receiving the home telling of how the Building Homes For Heros Organization has made his life so much easier and happy.

Look for me at the upcoming events:
-August 31, 2009 New York Golf Outing
-September (TBA) Annual Gala

I attend the Manhattan School of Music and I love every day of classes. In fact, I enjoy my school so much that I decided to join the Manhattan School of Music Summer Voice Institute. The classes are somewhat different from the average daily classes that I’ve had during my regular school year.  There is a stage class that includes dance and expression while performing.  I also have several vocal classes which will keep my voice in tune for the upcoming Miss New York America pageant.

There are so many people from all over the country too, and I am making new friends everyday.   I love living in New York and spending the summer here couldn’t be better.
